Here’s a fun fact (and by “fun,” I mean horrifying): The average funeral costs between $7,000 and $12,000—and that’s just the basics.

Want a fancier casket? Add a few grand. Burial plot? That’ll be extra.

And don’t even get me started on embalming, flowers, or that weird little funeral home fee that no one understands.

People don’t plan ahead, and then—BOOM—grieving families are hit with a bill bigger than a luxury vacation (except this trip ends in a cemetery).

But here’s the thing: It doesn’t have to be this way.
